Strong community spirit at Grüneberg School
The Grüneberg School in Cologne-Kalk, a long-standing project close to FOGTEC’s heart, can look back on a successful carnival season. Around 160 children and adults took part in this year’s school and neighbourhood parades with great creativity and enthusiasm. Under the motto “Jröneberger Papajeie – we are the cityscape of Cologne”, the school community delighted onlookers along the parade route.
Thanks in part to FOGTEC’s donation, the sweets and the ‘Bagage’ float could be realised. As a particular highlight, the school was awarded the ‘Golden Sewing Machine’ for the most original and creative costumes.
In addition, as part of a project week marking Black History Month, the school focused on diversity and social cohesion. The aim was to raise awareness of Black history as an integral part of our shared world, as well as to promote values such as respect, equality and an anti-racist attitude.
The project week concluded on 27 February with an exhibition in the school hall, where the pupils presented their work. A new Awareness Team was also introduced during the event: specially trained children who will act as points of contact for incidents of racism and actively work towards a respectful, discrimination-free community.
