The Ernst Achilles Prize

Promoting young talent

Since its start, the FOGTEC team has worked closely with universities, scientists and research institutes. Within this framework, FOGTEC regularly works with interns, bachelor’s / master’s students and doctoral candidates. This has repeatedly provided our team and our development work with important impetus. The exchange with students and scientists in particular has contributed to many innovations.

In order to honour and promote the work of such talented individuals, FOGTEC established the Ernst Achilles Prize several years ago, which recognises particularly interesting scientific work by students and doctoral candidates. In addition, we would like to use the award to help inspire interested students to pursue careers in the vast and interesting field of fire protection.

At the same time, we honour the achievements of Prof. Ernst Achilles, who was a close supporter during the early years of FOGTEC until his death. Ernst Achilles is considered a pioneer in preventive fire protection and a trailblazer in medical emergency rescue by the fire brigade. As the long-standing head of the Frankfurt Fire Brigade and a university professor, he has had a significant influence on German fire protection to this day through new ideas and approaches, and is thus a representative of the spirit of further development of fire protection in Germany.
