Innovative final theses wanted
In 2026, FOGTEC will once again be awarding the Ernst-Achilles-Preis, thereby recognising academic work that provides new impetus for fire protection. The award is aimed at undergraduates and PhD students who have addressed issues relating to fire proection in their bachelor’s or master’s theses or dissertations.
The aim of the award is to highlight innovative developments, promote scientific engagement and inspire young talent to join the fire safety sector.
Focus on practical relevance and innovation
The Ernst-Achilles-Preis is awarded for outstanding academic work with a clear link to current or future challenges in fire safety. In addition to the technical quality of the work, the assessment focuses in particular on the relevance of the findings and their potential benefits for users.
The submitted papers are reviewed and assessed by an independent jury of experts from the fire safety industry.

The awards ceremony will take place on 27 November 2026 at the headquarters of FOGTEC Brandschutz GmbH in Cologne.
In honour of Ernst Achilles
The prize is named after Ernst Achilles, an internationally recognised pioneer of preventive fire safety. His work has shaped numerous developments in fire safety technology and has had a significant influence on today’s standards for medical emergency rescue by the fire service.
With the Ernst-Achilles-Preis, FOGTEC aims to carry forward this spirit of innovation and encourage young scientists to develop new ideas for greater safety.
Undergraduates and PhD students may submit their work by 27 August 2026.
