The library is designed in a rounded square outline with outside dimensions of about 75 by 75 meters. The structure has 6 above-ground floors, 1st ¨to 6th floor, and three basements. Ground coverage of a typical floor is 5.186 m². The three basement floors contain parking areas and a book store with technical background.
The 1st and 2nd floors are public areas with complementary functions: cafeteria, lecture theatre, exhibition area, bookshop, night study room, and a free-communication space for the meeting of university visitors. All areas are protected with a FOGTEC high pressure water mist system, high pressure nozzles and hose reel cabinets with FOGGUNS for manual intervention at strategic locations. The system is in operation since 2008.
