Renovation of the airport terminal Zaventem

Brussels, Belgium

The project is about the ancient transit hall of the airport of Zaventem which was built in 1957-1958, especially for the world Expo of 1958 in Belgium. The building was constructed in aluminium, with a floating roof. Since the nineties, with the opening of a new building, the hall was out of use. Now, after 60 years, the building is being renovated. The roof had to be changed, but the existing structure is too weak to carry the new roof, and does not comply with today’s directives for fire protection. Therefore, the existing columns are reinforced, and extra beams are added to carry the new roof. The old beams are still carrying the old suspended ceiling, which is classified and so could not be touched. To protect the old aluminium structures between the roof and the suspended ceiling, a FOGTEC water mist system is placed under the new roof.

"Deutsches Schauspielhaus" St. Georg Hamburg

Hamburg, Germany

The "Deutsche Schauspielhaus Hamburg" in the district of St. Georg is the largest spoken-word theater in Germany with around 1200 seats. It was officially opened in 1900 with a performance of "Iphigenia in Tauris". The name "Deutsches Schauspielhaus" ties in with the tradition of Hamburg's National Theatre. It has had a decisive influence on the theatre history of the city in the 20th century and is one of the leading theatres in Germany. The construction of the theatre began on 12 August 1899 and was completed about a year later on 15 September 1900. A special feature is the small footprint of approx. 2,210m² which nevertheless allows a large number of spectators. Large ceiling heights and the vivid interior design lend the “Deutsches Schauspielhaus” a special charm. FOGTEC has developed and is currently installing a high-pressure water mist system for ranks in the spectator area. Special challenges here are, for example, the installation of the fire-fighting system with specially manufactured floor lowering nozzles, which have to be implemented architecturally in the rows of seats. In addition, the steel structures of the seating rows are protected by the FOGTEC system. As these are difficult to reach in a confined space, special difficulties can be found here. The design of the fire alarm system/fire detection is an additional challenge. The HDWN system is triggered by a heat sensor cable.

FOGTEC on the 21st Business on Rails

São Paulo, Brazil

FOGTEC presented the new product series 5000 on the 21st “Business on Rails” 2019 in São Paulo. On the shared booth the IRIS®-Group (International Railway Industry Standard, www.iris-rail.org), that belongs to UNIFE, the European Rail Supply industry organisation, together with the VDB (German Rail Industry Association), www.bahnindustrie.info) and the International Monorail Association (IMA, www.monorailex.org) introduced themselves. For the first time the biggest rail vehicle fair of Latin America was organized upon a new concept, which was accepted very well. It now takes place every second year, on a rotating basis with the Innotrans. The Business on Rails was merged together with the biggest logistics fair, the Intermodal South America. FOGTEC took the opportunity to connect and talk with a lot of local customers, assessors and railway companies to show the newest product developments. With the latest contract award procurements to FOGTEC – despite the difficult economic situation of the country – the reference variety increased again. In Brazil alone there are already 1000 vehicles equipped with a FOGTEC watermist-system.

FOGTEC YouTube Channel

In this monthly video you can see the blocking of heat radiation with an activated high pressure water mist system. Fire fighters will be able to have close access to the fire and support the fire fighters in their work. A blocking of the heat radiation is essential for a successful firefighting inside a tunnel.
