Trem do Corcovado
Fire protection for famous tourist attraction in Brazil
Stadler awarded FOGTEC the contract to deliver a smoke detection system for the Corcovado project in Brazil. The “Trem do Corcovado” is a rack railway, 3.8 km long, leading to the summit of Corcovado Mountain (710 m) with the statue of Christ the Redeemer and majestic views over Rio de Janeiro and Sugarloaf Mountain. The traditional line was opened in 1884 and in 1910 it became the first railway to be electrified in Brazil, today it is one of the few remaining railways using three-phase electric power. The applied FOGTEC Series 1000 based system is an economic and reliable solution for all types of applications. FOGTEC is proud to be part of the global safety concept of this major tourist area, contributing to a safer public transportation system.
Procuratie Vecchie
Venice, Italy
The historic building at St. Mark’s Square was built in the 16th Century to house the offices and apartments of the procurators of Venice. Today, the Procuratie Vecchie is used as the headquarters of the Generali Insurance. After the comprehensive restauration under the management of star architect David Chipperfield, the listed building will be opened to the public for the first time in the almost 500 years since its construction. A FOGTEC water mist system protects all parts of the building with a total area of 8,000 m2. The restorers chose to use high pressure water mist technology for the fire fighting system because of the small diameter pipework and the compact size of pumps and water tanks. Furthermore, they appreciate the unobtrusive pipes and nozzles installation and the low water consumption in case of a system activation.
IMechE Railway Challenge 2018
German Team from Aachen participated successfully
With the support of its sponsors which include FOGTEC, the University of Applied Sciences of Aachen’s team were able to participate this year, for the second time, in the IMEchE Railway Challenge, held from 29th June to 1st July, in Leicestershire, England. Ten teams of students and apprentices competed against each other to present the best self-constructed small-scale locomotive. The team from Aachen equipped it´s locomotive “Emma” with some new functions such as energy recovery technology, radar sensors and a control system via a tablet computer using WiFi. The approval and the test run on the Saturday passed without any difficulties. Despite some minor technical problems during the final run on Sunday, the team achieved fourth place overall and even came first in the "reliability" category. Congratulations from all of us at FOGTEC for this great performance!
